Cao is a patent attorney specialising in IT, telecommunications, software, and artificial intelligence (AI). She has broad technical expertise spanning wireless technology, electronics, computer vision, and the Internet of Things. Combining deep technical knowledge with strategic insight, she helps companies build strong and sustainable patent portfolios in a rapidly evolving technological landscape.
Her work includes drafting patent applications, liaising with authorities, and advising on patent strategies, licensing, oppositions, freedom-to-operate analyses, and IP due diligence. Cao is a trusted adviser to both Swedish and international clients, with particular experience in complex patent matters where technology, business, and law intersect.
As an expert on the Unitary Patent (UP) and Unified Patent Court (UPC), she provides high-level guidance within the European patent system, helping businesses secure effective and future-ready protection for their innovations.
Cao holds a PhD in Electronic Engineering from Mid Sweden University, where her research focused on optimisation of low-power computer controllers. Her previous experience includes working in intellectual property at Ericsson, as an examiner at the Swedish Patent and Registration Office (PRV), and as a developer in the multimedia industry – giving her a unique understanding of the entire innovation chain, from technology to commercial value.
Originally from China, Cao is Groth & Co’s contact person for the Chinese market. A native Mandarin speaker, she is also fluent in Swedish and English. Her expertise has been recognised internationally through the Notable Practitioner award by Managing Intellectual Property (MIP) in 2023, 2024, and 2025.
